  5. Schleyer, who was chairman of the Employers Union, was kidnapped by the Red Army Fraction in 1977 in an attempt to free their imprisoned leaders. The German government refused to negotiate and Schleyer was murdered. Consequently, Baader, Meinhof and Ensslin, the leaders of the Red Army Fraction, committed suicide in prison.
